Every battle is played according to a scenario. Scenarios consist of 2 parts: the deployment map and the victory condition. Here’s a scenario to get you started;
Once the scenario has been selected, it is time to set up the battle.
Take turns setting up the battlefield with your opponent. Make sure to obscure vision and forge treacherous paths for your warbands.
Roll off. The victor decides who is the attacker and who is the defender.
Each scenario has a set of victory conditions that details what the players must do in order to win the battle and how long the battle will last. If the victory condition requires the use of objective markers or wyrdstone tokens, those are placed in this step.
The defender gets to pick their deployment zone before the attacker. Then, both players divide their warband into 3 groups- with fighters spread amongst the groups as evenly as possible. Starting with the defender, the players take turns deploying groups into their respective deployment zone. When a group is deployed, all fighters must be set up within 3” of each other. Fighters must be set up on the battlefield floor and cannot be set up on a platform.
<aside> 💡 Example If a warband has 10 fighters, two of their groups need to have 3 fighters and the final group needs to have 4 fighters.

Twists are special circumstances that applies to the battle. Draw a twist from the twist deck and read it out loud. If the twist instructs players to do something before the battle begins, those things are done in this step.
Once these 5 steps have been completed, the first Battle Round begins.
